San Patrizio Livorno Festival And ItalishMagazine have just announced an online Beckett event which should be of interest to members. To coincide with the author’s birthday on 13 April they will present Just Human: Beckett which is described as ‘an online conversation celebrating the universal humanity in Beckett’s work, connecting Ireland, Italy, and Pakistan in support of girls’ education’.

It will bring together scholars, theatre practitioners, and Beckett enthusiasts across three continents ‘to explore what makes Beckett’s work universally resonant – regardless of language, culture, or geography. The event celebrates Qissa Khwani Theatrics‘ recent Urdu production of Waiting for Godot at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts, Islamabad, demonstrating how Beckett’s exploration of human resilience, dignity, and persistence transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries.

The session will consist of a panel discussion exploring Beckett’s universal humanity, the experience of translating Waiting for Godot into Urdu, and the resonance of Beckett’s themes across cultures followed by a Q&A, a performed reading featuring excerpts from Waiting for Godot in multiple languages, and a presentation on girls’ education in Pakistan.

Taking part are Ahmad Umar Ayaz, Federico Platania, Ola Majekodunmi, Daniel Flynn, Max Roveri with special guest, Beckett Society President Elizabeth Barry.

The event will take place on Monday 13 April 2026 at the following times
🇮🇪 5:00 – 6:00 PM (Dublin / Rome)
